Upon the discovery of Pompeii, and its neighbor Herculeneum, the Victorian explorers were both surprised and horrified by what they found. The sexually explicit artwork uncovered forever changed our view of Ancient Rome and eventually led to our modern concept of pornography. Come learn about the Roman’s views on their artwork and the ever changing ideas about what is and isn’t acceptable to look at.

Every form of performance is a type of storytelling. In this hands on class, we’ll discuss the types of bardic arts and how they all tell a story. We’ll have time to work some pieces as well.
To Make a Crust of Pyes Lady Cassandra Martelli
Learn how to make medieval pastry crust for that can be used for pies, tarts, or just fried in oil! Both lenten and non-lenten recipes will be made. At the end of class, enjoy a sample of the crusts fried up into the delicious medieval treat known as a “Crispel”. Class will use gluten (wheat flour) and nuts (almonds). This class is free, but donations to cover supplies and handouts are always appreciated!
Heraldry and Name Basics Anakin Dayton
Heraldry 101 for non-heralds and scribes. We will cover how submissions for names and heraldry work, explain conflict checking, and give participants enough information to decide what they want to register. In plain English and is suitable for newcomers.

Commonplace Books - Past & Present Lady Rosie Dubroc
Commonplace books have been used since antiquity as an organized way to collect and compile knowledge. They take many forms and serve many purposes. This class will provide a brief history of the commonplace book and then provide information on how to use modern technology and a variety of apps to create your own digital commonplace book. This class also draws heavily on Tiago Forte’s book “Building a Second Brain".
What are those documents they hand out at court? Lady Sabine De Anecastre
Level: Beginner/SCA Newcomer
Class limit: 10 participants
This class will cover the very basic information needed to create an award scroll in the SCA. The first half of the class will be a lecture that includes the significance of awards, who gives them out, supplies needed, reference materials, and how to lay out your paper. In the second half you will get the chance to paint your own scroll. I will not be covering the history of illumination or calligraphy. A handout will be provided to participants. Since this is a class for beginners and newcomers, all materials are free.

Learn sixteenth century Ottoman Turkish freehand/surface work embroidery stitches for adornment. Supplies include snips, embroidery floss, needles, 18” x 18” piece of linen, 6” hoop, bar of beeswax, and handout. All monies go back into purchasing supplies and offset the cost of printing.
